LODD: Ky. firefighter dies after battling brush fire

Rodney Collett, 41, suffered head and arm injuries after a tree limb fell and struck an apparatus

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. — A volunteer firefighter has died more than two weeks after he was injured while battling a brush fire.

WBIR.com reported that Rodney Collett, 41, worked with the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department and the Red Bird Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Firefighter Collett died of injuries he sustained while battling a fire on Oct. 29.

While battling the fire, a tree limb fell and struck an apparatus, Firefighter Close Calls reported. Collett suffered head and arm injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries Thursday night.

“Rodney was a great man and had one of the biggest hearts you will ever find and loved serving his community,” the BCVFD said on Facebook.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
