LOS ANGELES — An on-duty battalion chief died Friday after suffering a medical emergency while driving on duty.
Los Angeles Times reported that Jerome Boyd, 55, a 30-year veteran with LAFD, rear-ended a pickup truck in his city-owned vehicle at 11 a.m. Paramedics rushed Boyd to a hospital, where he died.
Boyd led one of the department’s largest building inspection units and was assigned to the public safety section of the fire prevention bureau.
“I join the men and women of the LAFD in mourning Chief Boyd’s sudden passing,” Chief Ralph Terrazas said. “It is always an unexpected tragedy to lose on of our own and my thoughts and prayers are with this family at this difficult time.”
Funeral arrangements are pending.
