TRENTON, N.J. — A New Jersey state trooper was killed after being struck by a passing vehicle when he stopped on the shoulder to assist firefighters with a car fire.
The Philly Voice reported trooper Sean Cullen, 31, had responded to a car crash around 8:15 p.m. on Monday and was walking near the scene of the active car fire when a passing vehicle struck him. The driver, a 22-year-old woman, stopped immediately and cooperated with police.
Cullen sustained severe head injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. According to a post on the New Jersey State Police Facebook page, doctors pronounced Cullen dead Tuesday morning.
Cullen had been a trooper for two years. Police are still investigating the crash.
There have been no charges against the driver that struck Cullen.
