NEW YORK — After losing her husband in an explosion Sept. 27, Fiona Fahy chose to honor FDNY Deputy Chief Michael Fahy by helping others in need.

During a news conference last week, Fahy discussed her decision to redirect the offer of nonprofit Tunnel to Towers Foundation to pay off the family’s mortgage after the death of her husband.

Fahy said less than a week before her husband had been killed, they had been watching a show about the Stephen Siller Foundation. He had suggested they support the organization as a “family service project.”

In that spirit, Fahy announced that, “On behalf of the Fahy family and our FDNY family, I am pleased that the Stephen Siller Foundation will raise funds in Mike’s name to support Building for America’s Bravest … I’ll hope that when another family is dealt this blow, they also experience the kindness, the love and support, and the recognition that their loved one’s sacrifice is not taken for granted.”

The funds will be donated to help build Smart Homes for seriously injured veterans returning home from service.

“Mike wanted to support the work of the Stephen Siller Foundation because he had such a deep, deep respect for the members of our Armed Forces, and he appreciated the large and small sacrifices that these heroes and their families make on a daily basis,” Fahy said.
