1 firefighter hurt battling NY apartment fire

The firefighter suffered minor injuries; three civilians were injured, two seriously

NEW YORK — Fire officials say four people have been injured, two seriously, in an early morning fire on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

The fire broke out at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday in a six-story apartment building on 78th Street between First and Second avenues.

A fire department spokesman says three civilians were injured. One was in critical condition and another was in serious condition with life-threatening injuries.

A third civilian and a firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The spokesman says the fire was brought under control by daybreak.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
