LINDA, Calif. — Two firefighters were taken to the hospital and treated for heat-related stress after fighting a fire that burned 63 acres in the Linda river bottoms Saturday.
The fire started near Island Avenue around noon and burned through thick vegetation between the levee and the Feather River, Linda Fire Protection District Chief Richard Webb said.
The two firefighters who were taken to Rideout Regional Medical Center were released back to full duty after re-hydrating and undergoing tests, and several other firefighters were treated for heat-related stress or injuries at the scene and released back to duty, Webb said.
“It was 100-plus degrees and it is really thick, like a jungle, down there,” Webb said. “We had really difficult access trying to get hoses laid.”
Twelve engines and three water tenders from Linda, Beale, Marysville, Olivehurst, Sutter County, Wheatland and Yuba City responded to the incident.
CalFire brought a bulldozer and hand crew to help cut a fire line around the fire, and firefighters were able to lay hose behind the bulldozer, Webb said.
No structures were threatened in the fire, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Webb said.
Crews were at the scene until about 11:30 p.m. Saturday and continued to keep an eye on hot spots through Monday evening, Webb said.
