AKRON, Ohio — Two Akron firefighters escaped injury when they fell from the first floor into a basement at a house fire late Thursday, Beacon Journal news partner newsnet5.com reported.
The fire broke out in a vacant house at Grace Avenue and Baughman Street shortly after 11 p.m.
The blaze started on a porch and spread, officials said.
The two firefighters entered the smoke-filled house and fell through a hole in the floor, officials said. They then safely made their way out of the basement.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The arson team was on the scene.
Neighbors told newsnet5.com the house had been vacant for about five months.
No damage figure was released.
Fire officials did not have an exact address on the house.
