JOPPA, Md. — About 80 firefighters from Harford and Baltimore counties responded Tuesday evening for a working building fire that caused $1 million in losses to an iconic hardware store in Joppa. Officials from the first fire company on the scene said the blaze escalated to the equivalent of three alarms.
State fire marshals announced Wednesday morning that the cause of the fire that heavily damaged Anderson Hardware & Storage in the 900 block of Pulaski Highway is still under investigation.
No civilians were injured in the fire that forced the closure of Route 40 in both directions at the end of the evening traffic rush.
