MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Shelby County Fire Department investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire early Monday that damaged two homes and left 10 people displaced.
Wreg.com reported that the fire broke out in one home around 2:30 a.m. and spread to the one next door. The flames were so intense that two firefighters were injured when they tried to enter the second home that caught fire, according to the report.
“Twenty feet, 25 feet may seem like a lot, but in a fire where a house in well involved, you’ve got fire blowing through the roof and out three sides, 25 feet is simply really not a lot,” said Brent Perkins, public information officer for the Shelby County Fire Department.
“They opened the front door and began to prepare to attack the fire when it did flash on them and it actually blew them back off of the porch,” said Perkins.
The firefighters were treated for minor injuries on the scene, no one else was injured, according to the report.
