PENDLETON, Ore. — An early morning fire tore through a home in east Oregon Sunday and killed five people, including three children, and left two adults hospitalized, authorities said.
Firefighters arrived at the two-story residence within two minutes of a 911 call and found it fully engulfed in flames, Pendleton police Lt. Bill Caldera said.
They battled the blaze for more than an hour to bring it under control.
Caldera said the two injured adults were flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Portland, according to a report in The East Oregonian.
The paper said that their conditions and the names and ages of the five victims have not been released.
Several hours after the blaze, the shell of the home remained standing but it looked gutted with blackened windows, doors and large holes in the roof and walls showing the fire’s devastation.
Authorities are trying to determine the cause of the blaze, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting, officials said.
Pendleton is located about 175 miles east of Portland.
