NEW YORK — Five people, including three firefighters, were hurt in a candle fire in a Central Park South hi-rise this morning, officials said.
Efforts to get the blaze under control were delayed by more than five minutes because the fire hydrant closest to the 18-story building wasn’t working, a source said.
“We had to use the fire hydrant on the corner,” a source told The Post. “We had to drag five lines, 50 feet each. Someone from the building came out and helped.” The blaze allegedly began because a pair in a 14th floor studio apartment were using candles, an FDNY chief said.
