STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Two firefighters suffered serious injuries and two others were hurt battling a fire at a commercial property Thursday morning.
SiLive.com reported that two firefighters were transported to a local hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and the other two sustained minor injuries.
The fire started on the fourth floor of the building in a harbor waterfront and quickly went to a second, then third alarm, according to the report. It was brought under control within the next hour, according to the fire department.
A mayday was issued at one point when flames swept behind firefighters battling the blaze, but no firefighters were trapped, a department spokeswoman said. All 138 firefighters on the scene were account for.
As of late Thursday night, the FDNY was unable to provide further details about the firefighters’ injuries and their conditions, according to the report.
