BRONX, N.Y. — A multi-alarm fire in the Concourse Village section of the Bronx injured five firefighters and a 9-month-old baby. One firefighter fell through a flight of stairs and was taken away on a stretcher.

Fifty-five units and 250 firefighters responded to a five-story residential building fire, Eyewitness ABC 7 reported. The fire started at 5:30 a.m. and reached eight alarms fire after 8 a.m.

According to Chief of Fire Operations Thomas Richardson, the fire may have started in the first floor’s grocery store and then spread to the rest of the building. The building had a void in the wall, which contributed to the quick spread.

Fire officials launched a drone to provide video back to the command.

“That can actually help us develop our strategy and tactics on how we are going to cut off the fire,” Richardson said. “And that drone did come in handy today.”
