CHICAGO — Six firefighters were transported to the hospital Monday morning after they reported respiratory discomfort and pain.
The six firefighters responded to a house fire and later started feeling ill when they returned to the firehouse; all six were transported to the hospital, reported ABC7.
“Raspy throat and irritated in their noses,” Assistant Deputy Fire Commissioner Timothy Sampey said. “Outside the structure, the tendency is to remove your mask as something is ventilated, if they’re in the wrong place as the wind changes direction, they could have possibly been exposed to something unknowingly.
Investigators said the fire may have started in an overheated furnace and caused an irritant to contaminate the air.
