BARLING, Ark. — A firefighter was injured after falling through the attic of a burning home Tuesday morning.
5NewsOnline reported that firefighter Robert Barker, with the Barling (Ark.) Fire Department, was treated for lower back pain and arm pain following his fall. He was one of several firefighters working to put out a chimney fire when he fell.
“When we showed up on the scene we had smoke in the house and smoke in the attic,” department spokesman Edwin Anderson explained. “We had flames showing. We put a guy in the attic and he got tangled up in the fire hose and fell through the ceiling.”
Barker hit a washing machine on his way down and was immediately taken by ambulance to a hospital.
It took crews about two hours to get the flames under control. The home was damaged, but not destroyed.
