SHANGHAI — A market fire that occurred Sunday evening in Shanghai had claimed six lives and injured more than ten as of 3 a.m. Monday, said the local fire fighting authorities.
Ma Bing, a doctor with Changhai Hospital of Shanghai, which is treating eight of the injured, told Xinhua that three were burnt seriously.
Fire fighters have extinguished the blaze that broke out around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at a farm produce wholesale market in Pudong new district of Shanghai.
All injured people have been hospitalized, said the district’s official microblog on the Twitter-like Sina Weibo.
Rescuers are still searching for the casualties at the fire site.
