BECKLEY, W.Va. — A bridge in Beckley has been named in honor of a volunteer firefighter killed in a 2007 explosion.
The Fire Captain Fred Burroughs Memorial Bridge was dedicated Saturday.
The bridge on the East Beckley Bypass spans Cranberry Creek.
Burroughs was among four people killed when a propane gas explosion leveled the Little General Store in Ghent in January 2007.
He was a a member of the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department.
The U.S. Chemical Safety Board used the Ghent explosion to create a training video called “Half an Hour to Tragedy.”
The title came from the time that passed as propane leaking from a tank filled the store and eventually ignited.
