OAKLAND, Calif. — A firefighter suffered injuries while helping to bring an East Oakland car fire under control Thursday morning, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the fire, first reported as a car fire in a garage at Courtland and Melrose streets, at 7:28 a.m.
Sixteen firefighters in three engines and a truck along with a battalion chief arrived and found an exterior fire that had spread to a detached garage outside a house in the 2200 block of 45th Avenue, Oakland fire battalion chief Zoraida Diaz said.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 7:43 a.m. A firefighter injured at the scene received treatment and was later taken to a hospital, Diaz said.
No word was immediately available on the fire’s cause or any damage estimate, and no other injuries were reported.
Fire under control at 0743 hours. One firefighter transported to hospital with injury.
