CHICAGO — A firefighter suffered multiple broken ribs after falling nearly 20 feet from a second-story window at a house fire Wednesday morning.
Firefighter Jeff Rich, 40, fell onto an air conditioner unit while battling the blaze; he was unable to see the window due to heavy smoke, reported CBS Chicago.
Fellow firefighters came to his aid and transported him to the hospital. Rich, a 14-year veteran, suffered four broken ribs and is expected to be released from the hospital later today.
No other injuries were reported. Fire officials said the fire started in the basement and may have been caused by an electric mishap.
