Chicago firefighter hospitalized for nausea after fighting blaze

CHICAGO — A Chicago firefighter was taken to a hospital from a fire in the East Side neighborhood this morning, authorities said.

The firefighter was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in fair-to-serious condition but was listed in good condition shortly after arriving there, officials said.

The blaze broke out shortly before 6 a.m. in the 10500 block of South Ewing Avenue, according to the Chicago Fire Department. During the fire, a mayday alert was sent out and additional crews were sent to the scene.

Fire officials did not immediately release details on what prompted the mayday alert or why the firefighter was taken to the hospital.
