WASHINGTON — About 3.4 million humidifiers sold in the U.S., and another 850,000 humidifiers sold in Canada, have been recalled for serious fire and burn hazards, federal officials announced.
The humidifiers are sold under various brand names and manufactured by GD Midea, which has received 38 reports of smoke and fire caused by the humidifiers that resulted in about $4.8 million in property damage, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The humidifiers were sold from January 2003, through December 2013 for between $100 and $300, according to a post on the agency’s website.
According to the agency, the brand names of the recalled humidifiers are:
Airworks, Alen, Arcticaire, Arctic King, Beaumark, Coolworks, ComfortAire, Comfort Star, Continental Electic, Crosley, Daewoo, Danby, Danby & Designer, Dayton, Degree, Diplomat, Edgestar, Excell, Fellini, Forest Air, Frigidaire, GE, Grunaire, Hanover, Honeywell, Homestyles, Hyundai, Ideal Air, Kenmore (Canada), Keystone, Kul, Midea, Nantucket, Ocean Breeze, Pelonis, Perfect Aire, Perfect Home, Polar Wind, Premiere, Professional Series, Royal Sovereign, Simplicity, Sunbeam, SPT, Sylvania, TGM, Touch Point, Trutemp, Uberhaus, Westpointe, Winix, and Winixl.
Consumers with these brands of humidifiers should turn them off immediately and visit here to determine if they have been recalled, according to the agency.
If the humidifiers have been recalled, consumers should contact GD Midea, according to the agency.
Dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances of China, and sold from January 2005 through August 2013, are suspected of causing several house fires in Washington County in September.
