WESTFORD, Mass. — Fire officials in Westford are probing an overnight fire that tore through a building that contains the campaign office of a Massachusetts congressional candidate.

Firefighters arriving late on Tuesday night found the two-story building engulfed in flames.

The campaign headquarters of Jon Golnick was the only occupied office in the building, which is a total loss. Golnick is one of four Republicans running for the 5th congressional district seat held by Democrat Niki Tsongas.

Fire officials are not speculating on whether the fire was accidental or intentional. The state fire marshal’s office has been asked to assist in the investigation.

Golnick said it was only a “temporary setback” for the campaign and his staff will be moving to new offices later on Wednesday.
