Firefighter falls out window while battling house fire

The firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released

WORCESTER, Mass. — A firefighter who fell from a second-floor window while battling a three-alarm house fire may have been spared more serious injury by a snowbank.

The Associated Press reported that the firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released. He was reaching for a ladder when he fell from the window of the two-family home Friday morning.

Deputy Chief John Sullivan says the 19-year veteran was trying to escape the building from the second floor when he fell, but was cushioned by the snow, according to the report.

All the occupants of the home were able to get out safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
