PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — Crews on Sunday extinguishd a small fire that started on the roof of a SpaceX building, officials said.

The fire started sometime before 5:30 p.m. at a warehouse near Grouper and Magellan roads in Port Canaveral.

The building is owned by SpaceX and is in the process of being refurbished to be used for the company, according to Canaveral Fire Rescue Capt. Brian Dennison.

Its unclear what sparked the fire, but no one from SpaceX was inside the building when it happened, Dennison said.

Officials say the fire started on the roof in an isolated part of the building and damage was minimal. The flames were extinguished within two hours, Dennison said.

Fire crews from a number of agencies responded to help Canaveral Fire Rescue, mainly because of the brutal upper-90s temperatures outside, which led to one firefighter being treated for heat exhaustion during the incident, Dennison said.

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
