ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul firefighters rescued a woman from a second-floor balcony early Saturday morning after a fire started in a bedroom of a Lafond Avenue duplex.

The woman was taken to a hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation, said Steve Zaccard, the department’s spokesman.

The apartment, in the 500 block of Lafond, was ruled uninhabitable because of extensive fire, smoke and water damage, Zaccard said.

The cause of the fire was an outlet overloaded with multiple extension cords to appliances, he said.
