HASTINGS, Neb. — Investigators hope to speak with one of the two critically injured people flown to Lincoln on Tuesday to determine what caused a fire in Hastings that killed three people.
Adams County Attorney Donna Fegler Daiss said the early-morning fire at Nebraskaland Trailer Park claimed the lives of two children and one adult.
Two people were flown to Lincoln in critical condition. A third injured person was treated and released in Hastings.
At about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Hastings firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the mobile home park. The firefighters had to deal with at least two inoperable fire hydrants and a wind chill reading of minus 17, according to The Associated Press.
The mobile home was destroyed, and the fire caused some damage to nearby structures, said Daiss, who visited the scene later Tuesday morning after the fire was contained.
“There really was nothing left (of the mobile home),” she said.
The victims have not been identified, Daiss said. She said she was getting dental records to confirm their identities.
The cause of the fire remained undetermined Tuesday evening. Daiss said the Nebraska Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating.
She said six people — two adults and four children — were at the home when the fire started.
