IRELAND — An Irish firefighter collapsed and died after battling a car fire Monday.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control within 11 minutes, but shortly afterwards, the firefighter collapsed, BBC reported.
He was given first aid at the scene before he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.
BBC reporter Gordon Adair said the firefighter was found lying beside a fire apparatus, where he had gone to check and store his SCBA he used in the operation.
“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time,” Chief Chris Kerr said. “No further details are available at present and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of our colleague is under way.”
