PHOENIX, Ariz. — A Phoenix man died of possible smoke inhalation after he was found in a burning apartment with a nonworking smoke detector late Monday night.
Fire investigators said the man appeared to be trying to escape the fire before he was overcome.
The fire’s origin appeared to have started in the kitchen, investigators said Tuesday morning. The man, estimated to be in his mid to late 50s, was found about 11:10 p.m. in the bedroom on the second floor of the two-story apartment Glendale and 17th avenues, Phoenix Fire Capt. Jonathan Jacobs said.
