STATter911.com has learned that Montgomery County, Maryland fire investigators have now joined the group investigating a series of arsons in Prince George’s County. Spokesman Pete Piringer confirmed that Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service investigators are working with PGFD and ATF to solve the fires in vacant houses in Prince George’s County.
Piringer would not say why the Montgomery County investigators were brought into the case, but sources tell STATter911.com that at least one of the PGFD volunteers is also a career firefighter in Montgomery County.
As STATter911.com was the first to report on Monday, a handful of PGFD volunteers have been operationally suspended as the investigators look into allegations they are part of an arson ring targeting vacant houses in the county.
According to sources the allegations were presented to PGFD investigators in late March. So far no arrests have been made in an investigation that is targeting firefighters in more than one Prince George’s County station.
