ST. CHARLES, Mo. — A firefighter was knocked unconscious while battling a structure fire Monday night.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly evacuated a sleeping family in an adjacent building, reported the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
While inside the burning building, debris fell on top of a firefighter as he checked the ceiling for fire, which knocked him briefly unconscious. Fellow firefighters quickly came to his aid and helped him out of the building.
The firefighter was transported to the hospital for head injuries, St. Charles Battalion Chief Dan Casey said. Doctors said the firefighter may have suffered possible bone fractures in his face.
There were no other injuries; the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
