NY firefighter hospitalized after fire ‘doing well’

Nearly 25 firefighters from six departments responded to the blaze

LIMA, N.Y. — A firefighter that fell from a second story home while battling a fire Friday is reported to be doing well and recovering.

Lima Fire Chief Jim Pribanich said, “He says he’s doing well, has gotten some x-rays. He’s doing well, everything’s good.”

The fire broke out early Friday morning, and started in the home’s attic; by the time firefighters arrived, the fire and smoke had begun to make it’s way down to the second floor.

“When we arrived on scene the fire had broken through the roof, at least half the roof was gone when we arrived,” Pribanich said. “We managed to contain it to the second floor, but water damage is what it is. It’s pretty well a loss as far as the house goes.”

No other injuries were reported. The family escaped the fire safely after being alerted by smoke detectors, reported Livingston County News.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although the chief said it is believed to be caused by an electrical issue.

Around 25 firefighters from several departments battled the blaze.

“It’s just a tough time during the middle of the week — manpower issues. We ended up with (six) departments, but you might get three people out of each department,” Pribanich said.
