Off-duty firefighter rescues family of 5 from house fire

ORANGEVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A nearby firefighter jumped into action after noticing a house fire Wednesday morning.

WOODTV.com reported that Dan Phillips, an Orangeville Township firefighter, who lives nearby, saw a garage engulfed in flames. The firefighter rescued two adults and three children; all five were uninjured. However, two goats were killed in the fire and the home is a total loss.

“I was just in the right place at the right time,” Phillips said.

The fire appears to have been accidental, according to the report.
