LYNBROOK, N.Y. — Two off-duty firefighters helped save a family of six from a house fire Sunday.
CBS New York reported that the family had just sat down for lunch when the firefighters came to the door.
“This guy comes banging on the door, saying, ‘Your roof is on fire. We’ve got to get everyone out,’” said 17-year-old Dylan Strife.
Thanks to the firefighters’ warning, Dylan, his parents, and three other siblings were all able to get out of the house.
Fire investigators believe a faulty fireplace chimney flue sparked the fire.
The two off-duty firefighters, Chris Bower and his son, said they did what anyone would have done in that situation.
