OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma City firefighters returning from a fatal fire spotted smoke at another house and rescued two people who were asleep when their home caught fire, according to a fire department spokesman.

The crew of rescue ladder truck #18 was returning to the station Thursday night after battling a fire that left one man dead in the 1500 block of NE 29.

The crew members noticed smoke coming from a house in the 1400 block of NE 30. Firefighters quickly evacuated two sleeping occupants of the home, according to Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson.

The fire started on the exterior of the home and was burning in the attic when the crew noticed the smoke. An estimated $25,000 in damage occurred to the structure and contents. There were no injuries, Fulkerson said.

Investigators determined the fire was electrical in nature.
