PLEASANT TWP., Ohio — A tractor trailer hauling hay caught fire and exploded at a farm in northeastern Clark County around noon Wednesday.
The fire at 6453 Neer Road, near the Clark and Champaign county border, occurred after the semitrailer hit a power line that was connected to a barn. The wire arced, causing fires in the barn and in the hay on the semitrailer.
Fire departments from the townships of Pleasant, Central, Moorefield and Harmony responded. Firefighters from Mechanics-burg responded as well.
About four or five tankers were brought in from Catawba because there are no nearby fire hydrants, Pleasant Twp. Fire Chief Mike Willis said.
He said extra crews were called to ensure that firefighters could take shifts to guard against the heat from the fire and weather.
Harlan Miller, the driver of the semitrailer, was picking up hay he had bought. He said he was watching the power lines in his mirrors and thought he cleared them.
No one was injured, fire officials said.
