BALTIMORE — Two firefighters and one civilian were injured in a pair of blazes that broke out in the same neighborhood in Northeast Baltimore Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Responders rescued a man and a pit bull with a ladder from the second floor of a burning home about 8:15 a.m. in the 2500 block of Garrett Avenue in Coldstream Homestead Montebello, Fire Department spokesman Samuel Johnson said.

The man and one firefighter had a minor injury, Johnson said.

Crews were called to the Garrett Avenue blaze from a larger fire that badly damaged six vacant row homes in the 2700 block of Fenwick Avenue near Clifton Park about 6 a.m., Johnson said.
When they arrived, the homes were showing heavy fire and smoke. The firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the one occupied home in the block, Johnson said.

One firefighter also sustained minor injuries at the Fenwick Avenue fire; he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The causes of both fires are under investigation.
