LOGAN, Utah — A two-alarm fire displaced 70 Utah State University students late Friday night.

It took about 50 firefighters from multiple fire departments an hour to control the blaze, according to a statement from the Logan City Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire at the four-story apartment building at 640 E. 900 North was reported just after 10 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke, and fire was showing through the roof of the building. Because the building’s utilities were damaged, authorities did not allow any residents to return home.

According to the statement, all residents were able to find a place to stay with friends, family or the Red Cross.

Damage was mostly limited to two apartments on the top level.

No residents were injured, though one firefighter sustained a minor injury, according to the statement.

Logan City Fire Marshal Craig Humphreys said all residents except those from the two damaged apartments have been able to return.

The fire, which is estimated to have caused about $60,000 in damage, started in the ceiling above a bathroom and has been ruled accidental, Humphreys said.
