Va. firefighter hurt while battling house fire

Two people inside the home suffered smoke inhalation and were escorted out by firefighters

NORFOLK, Va. — A resident and a firefighter were taken to a hospital this morning from a fire in the 300 block of W. Little Creek Road.

The blaze was reported around 1 a.m. and firefighters saw smoke at the two-story home when they arrived, according to a news release from Norfolk Fire-Rescue.

Two people inside the home suffered smoke inhalation and were escorted out of the home by firefighters, the release says. One of the residents was taken to a hospital and the other declined treatment at the scene.

A firefighter also suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The blaze was under control before 1:25 a.m.

Five people were displaced by the blaze. Two were being helped by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
