NORFOLK, Va. — Firefighters rescued a woman from a burning home Sunday afternoon in the 100 block of Beverly Ave.
The rescue crews were called to the address about 2 p.m. and found smoke showing from the 1 1/2-story home, according to a news release from Norfolk Fire-Rescue. A smoke alarm could be heard as firefighters approached.
The fire was inside the first-floor bedroom, and during a primary search, an elderly woman was found. She was conscious and located on her bed, the news release said. She was taken to medics who were at the scene, and she was then taken to a hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not considered life threatening.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. It was contained to the room where it started. The fire was under control by 2:15 p.m.
Despite the fast work, the home is uninhabitable because of fire and smoke damage.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
