WICHITA, Kan. — A four-year-old boy, who suffered severe burns after his babysitter sprayed him with hot water, got to live out his firefighter dreams for a day.

KWCH.com reported that almost two years ago, Caden Booth suffered severe burns and Potwin Fire Department Chief Heath Austin went to visit him in the hospital. He made Caden a promise: when he recovered, he would make him a firefighter for the day. On Wednesday, the department fulfilled that promise.

“We had a little birthday party with his family and then I set up a mock scenario where him and I actually went out and put out a fire,” Chief Austin said. “For us, doing things like this helps us deal with the emotional part of the job.”

Caden’s mom, Hannah, said they were grateful for the opportunity.

“It was just amazing, he has always been interested in firefighter stuff and just so grateful for the community to come together like that,” she said.
