MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee’s fire chief is encouraging people to put their guns down after a firefighter was shot early Monday.

Chief Mark Rohlfing said the firefighter who suffered a bullet graze wound to the head while responding to a medical call didn’t realized he had been injured until after he took care of his patient.

“I and everyone on the department are deeply concerned and rather angered that someone would shoot at a scene where our firefighters are rending care,” Rohlfing said.
