STAMPING GROUND, Ky. — Stamping Ground is looking for a new fire chief after Billy McIntosh and assistant chief Jacob Pasley abruptly resigned last week amid complaints and allegations the city is investigating, the mayor said.
The city commission appointed Josh Cook as interim chief of the volunteer fire department, Stamping Ground Mayor Kayla Jones wrote in a post on the city’s website. Jones did not give a reason for Friday’s resignations.
In an email to the Herald-Leader, Jones said Tuesday the city commission needs to investigate written grievances and verbal allegations regarding the fire department.
“We intend to conduct a full investigation into every matter,” Jones wrote in the email. “Until that time, as mayor, I have no reason to believe nor have I been provided any proof that our fire chief or assistant fire chief has done anything improper.
“After all the facts have been determined, we will have a much clearer picture of the status of our volunteer fire department,” Jones wrote.
The city commission also is working with the fire department to develop new standard operating procedures. A city commission meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss those procedures, Jones said.
In the website post, Mayor Jones assured residents that the community will be well protected by the Scott County Fire Department “24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Stamping Ground, located northwest of Georgetown, has a population of a little more than 700 residents.
