NC fire chief injured in hit-and-run

RUFFIN, N.C. — Police are searching for a suspect that hit a fire chief with their car and then fled the scene Saturday night.

MyFox8 reported that Fire Chief Gary Brown, with the Ruffin (N.C.) Volunteer Fire Department, was assisting a motorist involved in a crash when he was struck by a car. Chief Brown was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect’s vehicle has driver’s side damage, including a missing driver’s side mirror. The investigation is ongoing.

According to the department’s Facebook page, Chief Brown is out of surgery and is in good spirits but is still in a lot of pain.
