Retired fire chief helps man stuck inside crashed car

The chief, who was in the area at the time, saw the vehicle and provided care and comfort to the trapped man while they waited for firefighters to respond

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A retired fire chief provided care to a man who was trapped inside a car that hit a tree Sunday afternoon.

According to the Flagstaff (Ariz.) Fire Department, three men were traveling in a car when it ran off the road and hit a tree.

The driver and a passenger were able to exit the car, with only minor injuries sustained, but a second passenger in the front seat was trapped after the car’s dashboard came crashing down on his lower legs, ABC15 reported.

A retired fire chief, who was in the area at the time, saw the vehicle and provided care and comfort to the trapped man.

Fire crews extricated the man out of the car and he as transported to a hospital and treated for two broken femurs.

Fire officials said the vehicle was traveling at a high speed on a wash-board dirt road, which caused the driver to lose control of the car, according to the report.
