EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Robert Russell, who was suspended from his volunteer job as East Syracuse fire chief in November 2014, has been reinstated as a volunteer fireman with the department.
East Syracuse Mayor Robert Tackman said the village board and Russell came to an agreement this week that allows Russell, 55, to go back on the job. Russell was served legal papers in March that prohibited him from setting foot in the village’s two fire stations or on the property. That meant he couldn’t respond to any fire calls as a volunteer.
His reinstatement comes with restrictions: Russell can respond to fire calls only from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; he must leave the fire station once the call is over, according to Russell and village officials. He can attend training sessions in the fire station, but must leave once they are over.
