NORTH FOND DU LAC, Wis. — The Village of North Fond du Lac is reacting to the sudden arrest of its new Fire Chief Richard Zmuda.

Zmuda, 41, was arrested around noon Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Village of North Fond du Lac Fire Department, said Police Chief Darren Pautsch. “We got a call from the Bradford (Pa.) police department advising us there was a warrant and once all the information was verified we handled it as we would any other warrant, under the circumstances,” he said.

Zmuda faces charges of felony theft by deception in the Pennsylvania city where he formerly served as interim fire chief. He is accused of deceiving an elderly aunt by advising her to set up a bank account, and then bilking her of nearly $48,000, according to a criminal complaint filed in McKean County.
