CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. — A secretary and fire company treasurer are headed to court after being accused of stealing money from their fire department.
WeAreCentralPa.com reported that Scott and Jennifer McCracken used to be in charge of the Grampian-Penn-Bloom (Pa.) Fire Company until an audit showed they were writing checks to themselves. Twelve out of 13 checks involved in the investigation went to the McCrackens — the other went to their relative.
“I’ve known both of these people and worked with them side by side at fundraisers and fires,” member-at-large Mickey Hoover said. “They were trusted officers and they took advantage of the situation.”
Fire Chief Nick Selner said the department still requires two signatures on checks, but is no longer allowing them to come from the same household.
A total of $4,000 was stolen from 2008 to 2012.
“Personally, I think they need to do some jail time and they need to pay the money back,” Hoover said.
All charges were held for court and the McCrackens were released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
