ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Fire Department members recognized a woman who has been making their Christmas brighter for more than a decade.
Every year around Christmas, Gonic resident Cheryl Dewhurst McCarthy, daughter of a former fire chief, has been cooking an Italian dinner, complete with pies and desserts, that’s enough to feed firefighters at both fire stations. For the Fire Department members, it gives them a chance to all sit down together, eat lots of food, and spend time together during the holiday season.
Fire Chief Norm Sanborn said it’s typical for the firefighters to go back for second or thirds during that meal. He said her chocolate cream pies are especially delicious.
