Firefighters stand by assistant chief facing suspension hearing

Firefighters are picketing their own headquarters, saying he’s in trouble for simply speaking out of turn at a meeting

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — What gets several dozen off duty fire fighters to picket their own headquarters on a rainy day?

“We stand together. And in this particular instance we’ve got his back,” said Monarch Fire Protection District firefighter Craig Charleville of the roughly picketing firefighters.

The man’s back they have is their boss, Assistant Fire Chief John Borgmann. Tuesday, Borgmann went before the Monarch Fire Protection Board for a suspension hearing. The board president says he cannot be specific about the case because it is a personnel matter. But firefighters say the 30 plus year veteran is in trouble for the first time for simple speaking out of turn in a board meeting.
