NEW YORK The following information was released by the NYC Fire Department:
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano will preside over a promotions ceremony tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the FDNY Training Academy on Randalls Island for 23 fire officers, including Deputy Chief Kevin Butler, who will be promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief and Bronx Borough Commander; and Deputy Chief John Mooney who will be promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief and Assistant Chief of Training
This promotional ceremony is also significant because it marks the first time in the Departments history that a father and son have been promoted at the same time. Chief Mooneys son, Firefighter Shane Mooney of Ladder 26 in Harlem, will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. In addition, 6 Lieutenants will be promoted to the rank of Captain and 14 firefighters will be promoted to Lieutenant
This group of fire officers brings over 300 years of combined experience to their new roles within the Department. Commissioner Scoppetta said, “As I leave the Department, I take solace in the fact that there are so many great leaders within the ranks who will step up to lead in the future. They have demonstrated an incredible dedication and for that, I, and this city, am very grateful.”
“As I enter my new role as Fire Commissioner, I am thrilled to see the future leaders of the greatest fire department in the world, said Chief Cassano. I know these members will continue to help lead this Department now, and will set an example for all that come after to follow.”
